We have received the following update from the Shropshire Association of Local Councils:

Freedom Fibre - Update following the announcement on the BDUK website: Project Gigabit network build contract - North Shropshire - GOV.UK

We understand that the MP for North Shropshire, Helen Morgan met the Government Minister responsible for Building Digital UK (BDUK), Chris Bryant regarding rollout of full-fibre broadband in North Shropshire

Freedom Fibre were contracted by BDUK to create a new full-fibre network available to 12,000 North Shropshire homes. However, Freedom Fibre handed back their contract in June, with just 3,500 properties able to access the new network. Frustratingly the tender for a replacement provider hasn’t yet been completed. Helen voiced her concerns about this delay and called for the process to be speeded up as a matter of urgency.

Meanwhile BDUK said they are keen to make use of any leftover infrastructure so if there is any in your area that Freedom Fibre have left behind then please let Helen know ( [email protected] )
